SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE |
Course Objectives: | The aim of this course is to convey to students the fundamental concepts and issues regarding human rights, international conventions, human rights problems in Turkey and around the world, and the debates surrounding them. Through this course, it is aimed that our students acquire comprehensive knowledge on topics such as children's rights, refugee rights, disability rights, women's rights, LGBTIQ+ rights, labor rights, prisoners' rights, and to contemplate and work on what can be done to develop the culture of human rights in Turkey. |
Course Content: | Basic concepts in the field of human rights History of human rights Human rights culture Relationship between human rights, ethics, and law Human rights issues worldwide Human rights issues in Turkey European Court of Human Rights Universal conventions Children's rights Women's rights Refugee rights Disability rights LGBTIQ+ rights Climate Crisis, Climate Injustice, and Human Rights Labor rights Prisoners' rights How should human rights education be in Turkey? |
Attendance is mandatory. Attendance will be taken during live classes. Throughout the course, there will be one assignment, one short quiz, and one final exam. 30% of the student's semester grade comes from the midterm exam, 10% from the assignment, 10% from the short quiz, and 50% from the final exam. Students are required to obtain and read the compulsory course material, read articles uploaded to the Online Beykoz course panel, review recommended visual content, and watch films. |
