SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE |
Course Objectives: | This course will examine ethical and social issues in design, as well as the impact of globalization and information technologies on the material basis of urban life and ecology. Students will engage in theoretical discussions, study important artistic and design examples, and develop class projects by utilizing salient design strategies. The course is a combination of lectures, reading discussions, class presentation by artists, designers and scholars, and site visits. Students will form groups to work on special social projects. Collective production and discussion is highly encouraged. The goal of the course is to promote an active research and production program. The outcome will be in the form of digital books, visualization, websites and exhibition proposal, all of which will consider the new forms of social engagement. |
