SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: This course provides a systematic historical review of Ottoman-Turkish politics up to modern Turkey's democratic transition. Analysis of history of the Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic from the 19th century until the end of 20th century.
Course Content: In this course, the reforms of the late Ottoman Empire, modernization efforts and their results are explained together. In addition, the ideologies and movements that were put forward to save the State in the last periods of the Ottoman Empire are also examined. The establishment of the Republic of Turkey from the National Struggle and the path to the reforms and their results are described in conjunction with each other. This course covers the 20th century Turkey and it examines this century politically, economically and socially.
