SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: Students may find themselves in "deaf society " within their family and professional lives even if they do not have this handicap.
- Therefore, developing emphaty and interacting with the deaf society as a social necessity
- regarding the structural characteristics of spoken language by using the specific visions and structures peculiar to sign language are aimed for the students' communicating at the elementary level (A1-A2).
Course Content: In the perspective of teaching Turkish Sign Language as a foreign language

- A small introduction to Turkish Sign Language deriving from the period of Ottoman empire to the Republic time
- The difference between deaf society and spoken culture, primarily stressing the usage of it as in "morphology" and especially the difference of its syntactic form.
-Within the scope of basic communicative aims
The concept of unique sign for each deaf person
Greeting words as "Hello, How are you? See you again etc."
