SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: To introduce students to the History of Graphic Design and to provide them with the understanding of the periods through examples, to give information about the effects of today's Contemporary Graphic Design, to make examinations and evaluations.
Course Content: In this course, developments in Graphic Design from the starting point of Graphic Design History are covered. Explains the development of graphic design on movements in the field of art and culture. The effects of 20th century industrial revolution on graphic design, The Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau movements; Modernist period in the first half of the 20th century, Bauhaus and New Typography, Modernist approaches in America; Typographic approaches in the information age and globalization process, The New York School, corporate identity and new visual communication systems; Postmodernism and graphic design, the Digital Revolution and Beyond, by examining the important events in the field of design from the 20th century to the present day, the major developments in the history of graphic design that guide current trends are taught.

  1) 1- Recognizes and comprehends the history and periods of graphic design through examples. 2- Have information about the history of graphic design. Contributes to his designs by using basic design principles, elements and elements with each other.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) 1- Look at the history of graphic design from a conceptual perspective, have the ability to use artistic concepts effectively in designs. 2- Have knowledge about research, method and techniques in the field of design and art.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) 1- Have creative and original thinking skills. 2- Have professional and ethical responsibility about Intellectual, Art and Design works. 3- Do teamwork.
