SECTION II: INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Course Objectives & Content

Course Objectives: Ability to solve problems in the design process. The ability to raise awareness against professional problems and current events with their designs. Ability to analyze, synthesize and interpret the design problem.

Course Content: Introduction of design and visual communication factors in transferring graphic design to application areas, giving basic information and making applications in this field. Preparing a press release for the product and service to be promoted. Making application studies to comprehend layout and basic design principles.
Commercial, social and cultural promotion campaigns. Use of display elements in advertisements. Applications for different media such as posters, outdoor, television, internet, radio and newspaper.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are those describing the knowledge, skills and competencies that students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the course. In this context, Course Learning Outcomes defined for this course unit are as follows:

  1) 1. Preparing a promotional strategy for the advertisement of a product or organization. 2. Writing title, text and slogan in accordance with the strategy, creating an image element. 3. Designing advertisements using title, text, slogan and image elements. 4. To be able to benefit from layout principles in Graphic Design and Applications. 5. To be able to solve design problems in small press advertisements.
Skills (Describe as Cognitive and/or Practical Skills.)
  1) 1 To comprehend the basic concepts in the field of Visual Communication Design. 2 To be able to create alternative solutions for visual communication problems by using the language of design and art. 3 To have knowledge of materials used in graphic design products and graphic arts. 4 To be able to create original photographs, images and appropriate typography to be used in designs. 5 To be able to communicate in written and verbal form.
Competences (Described as "Ability of the learner to apply knowledge and skills autonomously with responsibility", "Learning to learn"," Communication and social" and "Field specific" competences.)
  1) 1- As an individual who has received professional education in Design and Art, to have the desire to fulfill the responsibilities of raising awareness of the society in these matters and to enlighten the environment on this issue. 2- To be aware of the contribution that his work will make to his own nation in the total benefit and to reflect the sense of social belonging to his work. 3- To have design awareness and responsibility in its own field and to transfer this awareness to all common stakeholders.
  2) 1- To know how to solve problems in the field of Graphic Design, to have an analytical and holistic perspective 2- To constantly question and renew the knowledge and skills acquired in the field of Graphic Design, to gain the principle of lifelong learning, to aim to renew and develop the acquired knowledge. 3- To be a creative and productive artist/designer candidate.
  3) 1 Gaining the technical competence to apply the drafts, to be able to use the necessary computer programs for design. 2 Gaining the habit of meticulous and disciplined work. 3 Expressing their feelings and thoughts by printing, painting, photographing, etc. To be able to explain at the aesthetic level with methods.
  4) 1 To have a desire for lifelong learning and to devote time to it. 2 To be able to work in harmony with different people and groups. 3 Being sensitive to the problems of the country. 3 To have sufficient awareness on environmental protection, occupational health and safety.
