PROGRAMME PROFILE

The Architecture Undergraduate Program at Beykoz University is positioned within the disciplines of architecture and the built environment as a design-oriented, practice-based, and research-supported bachelor’s degree program. The program has been structured in accordance with national and international higher education standards and the principles of the Bologna Process, addressing the theoretical, technical, and design dimensions of architectural education through an integrated approach.

The academic structure of the program is based on the simultaneous interaction between studio-based design education and theoretical and technical knowledge areas. Architectural design studios conducted from the first to the eighth semester are structured to progressively develop students’ spatial thinking, problem-solving, design development, and critical evaluation skills.

Technically oriented courses address building technologies, material knowledge, and structural systems in direct relation to the design process, while history and theory courses cover the historical and intellectual background of architecture. The educational process is carried out through studio work, technical applications, workshops, field studies, and project-based learning activities.

The program is intended for students who are interested in design and spatial production processes, seek to develop creative and analytical thinking skills, and are capable of questioning the social, cultural, and environmental impacts of the built environment.

Program-Specific Features

PSF-1: Studio-Based Educational Structure
The program structure is based on architectural design studios conducted continuously from the first to the eighth semester. The studio system progressively develops students’ design competencies through increasing spatial and programmatic complexity.

PSF-2: Integration of Technical Knowledge-Design Process
Courses related to building technologies, material knowledge, structural systems, and construction techniques are conducted simultaneously with design studios to ensure the integration of technical knowledge into design decisions.

PSF-3: Foundation in History, Theory, and Critical Thinking
Courses on architectural history and theory support students in evaluating design processes within historical, cultural, and intellectual contexts.

PSF-4: On-Site Observation and Spatial Experience
Field trips, site studies, and on-site investigations support students in developing observation and spatial analysis skills related to the built environment.

PSF-5: Contemporary Academic and Professional Engagement
The program supports students’ engagement with current architectural discussions and professional practices through seminars, conferences, workshops and meetings with professionals.
